Protect Our Blue Spaces – Check, Clean, Dry!

As the nights draw out and the weather improves, we’re all looking forward to spending more time on the water.

Protecting our environment is a priority, and embedding small habits like  CHECK CLEAN DRY can make a big difference in keeping our waterways healthy.

Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) can damage waterways and easily spread via boards, kayaks, and paddles. A quick clean and dry after each session helps prevent this.

This year, we are partnering with Bio Mate, a supporter of Clear Access, Clear Water and a key collaborator with North Wales Wildlife Trust in protecting our blue spaces. As part of this initiative, each Aqua Paddle captain will receive a Bio Mate portable cleaning kit to help embed responsible cleaning practices at event sites. A great tool for paddlers, the Bio Mate portable cleaning kit includes a brush with an integral tap, a drying cloth, a sponge, and a waterproof bag. It fits on a standard 500ml bottle or can be used with a hosepipe or Bio Mate’s 8L pump sprayer—ideal for thorough cleaning.

BIO Mate Exclusive Offer for Paddle Cymru Members!

Bio Mate is offering a 15% discount on their portable cleaning kits for Paddle Cymru members. Keep an eye on the members’ portal for the discount code, available soon—just in time for the 2025 paddle season!

Here at Paddle Cymru would love to hear about how you and your fellow paddlers are embracing the ritual of Check-Clean-Dry! Send us some pictures as well as a few words about it, and you could be featured in the next newsletter!

For many clubs, GDPR can feel like a complicated piece of legislation designed for large organisations rather than volunteer-run sports clubs. The reality is much simpler.

There are few experiences more magical than encountering dolphins in the wild. Seeing a fin break the surface, watching a pod move effortlessly through the water, or catching sight of a mother and calf travelling together can be a truly unforgettable moment for anyone enjoying Wales's coastline.

Every time I dip a paddle into a river, I'm reminded that water connects us all. The rain falling on a hillside. The stream running through a village. The river winding its way to the sea. What happens upstream never really stays upstream. It flows onwards, carrying everything with it. That includes the things we choose to flush down the toilet.
