You may start to notice a new name appearing across paddlesport qualifications, awards and training.
As of November 2026, British Canoeing Awarding Body has changed its name to Paddle UK Awarding Body (PUKAB).
The new name marks the next chapter for the Awarding Body, which has more than 45 years of experience delivering qualifications for paddlesport coaches, leaders and instructors.
What is Paddle UK Awarding Body?
Paddle UK Awarding Body is the awarding body for paddlesport qualifications, working with delivery centres to support candidates across the UK and internationally.
It is regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA, providing professional assurance for coaches, leaders and instructors. Its qualifications cover paddlesport from grassroots and recreational activity through to high-performance competitive disciplines.
The organisation is also a CIMSPA Enhanced Education Partner and an active member of the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB).
What does the change mean?
For paddlers, coaches, leaders and instructors in Wales, the main thing to be aware of is the change of name from British Canoeing Awarding Body to Paddle UK Awarding Body (PUKAB).
So, if you start seeing the Paddle UK Awarding Body name or PUKAB on information about qualifications and training, this is the new name for the awarding body you may previously have known as British Canoeing Awarding Body.
You can find out more about Paddle UK Awarding Body, its qualifications and awards on the Paddle UK Awarding Body website.
