Where Can You Paddle?
Lakes & Reservoirs
Wales has some of the most beautiful lakes and reservoirs in the UK. Often surrounded by mountains or hidden in the forest with stunning beaches, they make a great day out.
A waterways licence with Canoe Wales does not include lakes and reservoirs, so there may be a charge to launch.
Rivers
Wales has a lot of rivers. Whether you're after white water to spend a few thrilling hours on, or calmer rivers that offer the possibility of multi-day adventures, Wales has an option that's right for you.
It's important to be aware that there is no confirmed public right of navigation to paddle most navigable rivers. Make sure you have checked if you need a waterways licence. Always check for permissions or access issues before you paddle - but don't worry, we'll provide you with as much information as we can to keep you updated.
Canals
There are five beautiful canals in Wales - and these canals take you through some of the most beautiful areas of Wales. They are all managed by Glandŵr Cymru - the River & Canal Trust in Wales - which means you need a waterways licence to paddle, but that is where Canoe Wales and British Canoeing comes in. Our membership will also cover you to paddle these canals.
The Sea
The coastline around Wales is arguably the most beautiful stretch of coastline in the UK. From the gorgeous white sandy beaches in West Wales, to the raging sea cliffs and tidal races on Anglesey, there is something for all paddlers.
It is important to have all the skills and be aware of your own and others safety before setting out on the ocean.
