Help Shape the Future of Paddlesport This Summer. Become a Paddle Cymru Course Tutor or Assessor
24 April 2026

HOME / NEWS / Current Post

As the days get longer and more people head for the water, summer is one of the most exciting times in paddlesport. It is also one of the most important.

With demand for coaching, leadership and safety skills rising year on year, Paddle Cymru is inviting experienced coaches and leaders to step into a vital role, helping more people paddle safely, confidently and with purpose.

Applications are open to become a Course Tutor or Assessor (Provider) delivering British Canoeing Awarding Body (BCAB) awards, with the application deadline now extended to 30 April 2026.

Why providers matter more than ever

Every paddler’s journey starts somewhere. A first lesson, a confidence‑building course, a leadership qualification or a safety award can be the difference between someone dipping a toe in the water and becoming a lifelong paddler, coach or volunteer.

As a Paddle Cymru Provider, you play a direct role in increasing paddling participation across Wales and beyond, especially during the busy summer months when more people are keen to get active on the water.

This is about more than delivering qualifications. It is about growing the paddlesport community, supporting clubs and centres, and developing the next generation of paddlers, coaches and leaders.

What does being a Provider offer you?

Becoming a Paddle Cymru Provider allows you to:

  • Deliver nationally recognised BCAB awards, supporting learners through meaningful, high‑quality qualifications
  • Be part of a supportive, quality‑driven Delivery Centre, with clear standards and guidance
  • Access opportunities to run courses across Wales and beyond, in line with BCAB requirements and agreed deployment arrangements
  • Help meet growing demand during peak seasons, supporting safer, more confident paddling nationwide

Gain professional recognition for your experience, expertise and commitment to developing others

Each provider role has a clear person specification and set of requirements, ensuring a transparent and consistent approach across all pathways. In some cases, Accredited Prior Learning (APL) may be considered, recognising prior experience and qualifications.

Available pathways

Applications are open across a range of award pathways, including:

  • Coach Award
  • Leadership
  • Paddlesport Instructor
  • SUP Instructor
  • Safety and Rescue

Whether your strength lies in coaching, leadership, instruction or safety, there is an opportunity to contribute where your experience makes the biggest impact.

Application deadline extended

To support strong interest and allow applicants time to complete submissions, the application deadline has been extended to 30 April 2026.

If you have been considering taking the next step, or have already started an application, now is the time to get involved.

Take the next step

If you are passionate about paddlesport, enjoy developing others and want to play a key role in growing participation, becoming a Paddle Cymru Provider could be the next step in your coaching or assessing journey.

The lack of rain places a great strain on the environment and our sport. The dry spell is already impacting our waterways, where we are seeing low river levels that could affect fish and wildlife. Therefore, it is important to follow guidelines when you are either considering paddling or when you are on the water.
