DeeFest is back again this year, bringing paddlers together in one of the most iconic whitewater locations in Wales. Held on the beautiful River Dee in Llangollen, this much‑loved festival is a highlight of the paddling calendar and an incredible weekend of activity, community and celebration. DeeFest is designed for paddlers of all abilities, with a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that captures everything people love about paddling in the Dee Valley.

Whether you are drawn by the river, the people, the challenge, the party or the scenery, DeeFest offers something truly special. It is more than a paddlesport event. It is a gathering of the community, a celebration of the outdoors and a chance to enjoy one of the best whitewater rivers in the UK.

What Makes DeeFest Unique

DeeFest is built around a simple idea: everyone should feel welcome on the water. The festival hosts events to suit every level of whitewater paddler, meaning newcomers, improvers and experienced boaters can all enjoy the weekend at their own pace. From guided paddles to coached sessions, from relaxed river runs to more challenging sections, the programme aims to bring people together and help paddlers experience the best of the Dee Valley.

Off the water, DeeFest features a friendly festival atmosphere with music, food, social events and a genuine sense of community. It is the kind of weekend where lifelong friends are made and club bonds grow even stronger.

Smooth Logistics: Shuttles, Parking and River Access

With hundreds of paddlers heading to the valley, DeeFest puts careful planning into keeping everything running smoothly. The organisers provide shuttle vehicles throughout the weekend to move paddlers and boats between key locations in Llangollen. These include the Pavilion car park, Ponsonby car park, Mile End Mill and Horseshoe Falls, allowing participants to move easily between put‑ins and get‑outs.

Paddlers are encouraged to car‑share, park courteously and use the shuttle system rather than overcrowding the riverbanks. Overflow parking is available, and maps help visitors understand where to go and how best to access the river safely. The system is designed to show the local community that paddlers are thoughtful, organised and considerate users of the valley.

A Festival Committed to Its Mission

DeeFest is built around a mission to support both the paddling and local communities. Its ethos includes sustainability, positive environmental impact, good relationships with local residents and responsible use of the River Dee. Everything about the festival is shaped by the belief that paddlers can be a force for good in the places they visit.

The festival champions inclusivity, accessibility and respect for the river. It is not just about paddling. It is about supporting one another, promoting a kind and thoughtful paddling culture and giving back to the Dee Valley.

Tickets and Insurance: What Paddlers Need to Know

Tickets for DeeFest include access to the site and car park at Mile End Mill as well as the full event programme. Paddle Cymru is proud to support the festival by providing insurance, helping to make the event possible for paddlers in Wales.

Participants who are not members of Paddle Cymru, or of another national governing body, will need to pay a small daily insurance levy on arrival. Paddlers are encouraged to bring proof of membership with them and can talk to Paddle Cymru staff at the event to learn more about membership benefits.

Tickets, updates and announcements are all available on the DeeFest website, with dates and details confirmed by organisers as the festival approaches.

Why DeeFest Matters to Paddlers in Wales

DeeFest is more than a weekend on the water. It strengthens the paddling community, contributes to the local area and showcases what makes the River Dee such a treasured part of Welsh paddlesport. It is inclusive, joyful and full of the energy that comes from celebrating something you love with people who feel the same way.

Whether you are trying whitewater for the first time or returning to a favourite river, DeeFest invites you to be part of something bigger. It is a celebration of the river, the landscape and the people who make the paddling community thrive.

Have you ever stood on the riverbank, board or boat at your feet, and felt that quiet sense of belonging? That feeling that paddling isn’t just something you do, it’s something you’re part of.

Every time we step onto the water, whether on a river, lake or coastline, we become part of Wales’s extraordinary natural environment. As paddlers we reach quiet corners, hidden channels and beautiful stretches of water that many people never see. That privilege brings responsibility. It means playing an active role in caring for the places we enjoy so deeply.
