Nominations now open for the Canoe Wales Board of Directors
4 September 2024

HOME / NEWS / Current Post

The Canoe Wales AGM takes place on the 12 November, and we'll also be electing two new members of our Board of Directors. If you would like to nominate a member to stand for election, please fill out our online nomination form via the below link. Nominations must be submitted on or before 7pm on Tuesday 08 October.

The Board meetings are held 4/5 times a year and are all online (apart from one annual face-to-face Away Day).

We encourage board members to get involved and we will offer the opportunity to join some specific special interest committees which can make great use of your skills and expertise.

We also offer development opportunities to increase your skills further. As part of this, we hold an annual two day Away Day, which gives us chance to get together, upskill and develop as a team.

Through the elected member positions, Canoe Wales would welcome nominations for anyone who can represent our membership and provide an objective and measured contribution to the Board.

Following a recent skills matrix, Canoe Wales would be particularly interested in nominations for members who can represent the following areas of our membership: -

  • The performance programme – recently retired athletes or representatives from the parents on the programme
  • Clubs and volunteers – current or recently retired club officials or club volunteers
  • Providers within non-profit organisations – i.e. those with experience of providing paddlesport instruction to disadvantaged/disabled participants
  • Discipline committees – representatives from a specific competition or recreational discipline (i.e. Polo, Surf, Sea Kayaking, SUP etc.)

Being a Board member of Canoe Wales is a very influential position that provides the opportunity to positively impact Canoe Wales and the paddling community in Wales. We welcome nominations from all members and are particularly interested in maintaining our gender balance and diversity of skills and experience.

If anyone would like an informal discussion about what being a Board member of Canoe Wales involves, please contact Alistair Dickson, Canoe Wales CEO at alistair.dickson@canoewales.com

Closing date: 7pm on Tuesday 08 October 2024

The lack of rain places a great strain on the environment and our sport. The dry spell is already impacting our waterways, where we are seeing low river levels that could affect fish and wildlife. Therefore, it is important to follow guidelines when you are either considering paddling or when you are on the water.
